This past month has brought incredible opportunities to get up close to some amazing photography.  Steven Kasher Gallery hosted a splendid twin exhibition of Weegee and Vivian Maier photographs.  This past week, the gallery treated visitors to an excellent tour - given by the reknowned photography collector and connisseur John Bennette - of the Maier photographs, some appearing in print form for the first time.  The Pace Gallery's museum quality 'Happenings: New York, 1958-1963' exhibition brought together an incredible body of work including photography and film footage that recreated this fascinating artistic milieau, a superb achievement given it's essentially ephemeral performance-art-based nature.  Another excellent exhibition, put on by Julie Saul Gallery, took a close look at the work of three postwar European photographers and offered a fascinating study of how political environment, sexual mores, mental health, and camera technology shape the images we see.

We've worked hard scouring our sources to find you the best photography events taking place around New York City in March.  Don't forget that capping off this month, already full of excellent photography exhibits as you'll see in the Events section below, is the AIPAD Photography Show at the Armory on Park Avenue.  We hope to see you out, enjoying the great photographs the City has to offer!
