The Brand

What does 'Dodge and Burn' mean?

Dodging and burning were originally techniques used in darkrooms, which is where photographers and printers would make photographic prints using an enlarger and a wet chemical process. Dodging involves selectively blocking or "dodging" a part of the light-sensitive photographic paper during exposure so that the selected part of image receives less light. Burning is the opposite. These techniques are used to print beautiful photographs, where the shadows and highlights of an image are properly exposed. At Dodge and Burn, we take our inspiration from classic photography, cameras, and photographs, and frankly, we just think the name has a nice ring to it.

Your Purchase Contributes to Hurricane Sandy Relief

Hurricane Sandy, the largest Atlantic hurricane on record, hit the U.S. eastern seaboard on October 29th causing flooding, power loss and general devastation across New York City and adjoining areas, particularly Long Island and the Jersey Shore.  At least 40 people have been killed by the hurricane in New York City alone.  Many New Yorkers and others affected by the hurricane are without power, water, food and shelter.

We are a New York City business and we want to help.

During the month of November we will give $1.00 for every Dodge & Burn shirt sold to a reputable agency providing Hurricane Sandy relief in the New York City area.
